Working Out of Collin County
Collin County is the busiest dirt market in North Texas right now, and it is the one we can see from the office window. The corridor from Plano up through Frisco, McKinney, Celina, and Anna is entitling and grading new ground every month: corporate campuses along the Dallas North Tollway and SH-121, data centers and distribution around US-380, and subdivisions filling in everything between. Nearly all of it is built on ground that cannot supply its own structural fill.
That is the job we are set up for. Being headquartered in the middle of the corridor means the sourcing picture, which export site is open, which borrow pit has tested material, which direction the trucks are already running, is local knowledge here, not a phone call to another metro. When a pad in Prosper needs tested select fill and a grading job in Wylie is cutting clay it cannot keep, we are often the one dispatch connecting the two.
Plano itself adds a wrinkle the newer suburbs mostly skip: much of the city is redevelopment now. Tearing out and re-grading a 1980s commercial site on Spring Creek or Parker Rd means working around live utilities, tight staging, and city haul routes, and the material plan has to respect all three. The Ground Under Plano
Plano sits right on the geologic seam that defines Collin County earthwork. The western side of the city rides the Austin Chalk, a belt of soft Upper Cretaceous limestone whose thin, calcareous soils (the Austin and Eddy series) sit shallow over rock. East of the chalk the ground drops into true Blackland Prairie: deep, smectitic vertisols like Houston Black, the official Texas state soil, whose clays swell wet and shrink dry hard enough to crack foundations that ignore them.

What that means for your pad
A single Collin County project can cross both worlds: chalk shallow enough to blunt an excavator on the west end of the tract and PI-40 clay on the east. Either way the native ground rarely passes a structural spec, so the select fill under the slab is imported, and the clay that comes out has to be exported. The 2021 IBC flags soils with a plasticity index of 15 or higher for expansive-soil design, and most of the Blackland runs far past that line. That import-export loop, spec fill in and surplus clay out, is the everyday physics of building here, and it is exactly the loop our dispatch is built around.

El resultado práctico es un ciclo de importación y exportación corriendo al mismo tiempo en la misma obra: relleno selecto con especificación que entra para la plataforma, arcilla excedente que sale hacia un sitio que la quiere para subir nivel. Ese ciclo es la física diaria de construir en Plano, Frisco, McKinney y el corredor hacia el norte, y es alrededor de lo que está organizado nuestro despacho.
