Working Out of Collin County
Collin County is the busiest dirt market in North Texas right now, and it is the one we can see from the office window. The corridor from Plano up through Frisco, McKinney, Celina, and Anna is entitling and grading new ground every month: corporate campuses along the Dallas North Tollway and SH-121, data centers and distribution around US-380, and subdivisions filling in everything between. Nearly all of it is built on ground that cannot supply its own structural fill.
That is the job we are set up for. Being headquartered in the middle of the corridor means the sourcing picture, which export site is open, which borrow pit has tested material, which direction the trucks are already running, is local knowledge here, not a phone call to another metro. When a pad in Prosper needs tested select fill and a grading job in Wylie is cutting clay it cannot keep, we are often the one dispatch connecting the two.
Plano itself adds a wrinkle the newer suburbs mostly skip: much of the city is redevelopment now. Tearing out and re-grading a 1980s commercial site on Spring Creek or Parker Rd means working around live utilities, tight staging, and city haul routes, and the material plan has to respect all three. We quote those jobs street by street, not by a metro rate card.
Materials We Deliver in Plano
Sourced to your spec, quoted the same day, and dispatched from our home corridor:
Select Fill
Tested, low-PI structural fill for building pads and load-bearing grade, matched to the geotech report your Collin County project is built against.
Common Fill
Workhorse fill for grade raises and rough shaping where the spec is volume, not plasticity. Priced to move in quantity.
Fill Dirt
Bulk fill for leveling lots, filling low ground, and backfill across Plano, Frisco, and McKinney, by the tandem or belly dump.
Topsoil
Screened topsoil for finish grade and landscape cover, delivered once the structural lifts are down and compacted.
Sand & Base
Cushion sand, concrete sand, and aggregate base for utility bedding and sub-base through the 75 and 121 corridors.
Road Base & Crushed Concrete
Flex base and recycled crushed concrete for construction entrances, laydown yards, and drives on active Collin County sites.
Dirt Export & Haul-Off in Plano
Collin County’s construction boom has a quiet second market: all that grading produces surplus clay, and it has to go somewhere legal. We run haul-off out of Plano, Frisco, McKinney, and the 380 corridor, and because the same corridor is constantly raising grade on new ground, the export side of one project is often the import side of another a few miles away.
Send us the yards, the material, and the site address. We coordinate the trucks and the destination, and when your clean spoil matches an active import site, the haul-off gets cheap, sometimes close to free.

The Ground Under Plano
Plano sits right on the geologic seam that defines Collin County earthwork. The western side of the city rides the Austin Chalk, a belt of soft Upper Cretaceous limestone whose thin, calcareous soils (the Austin and Eddy series) sit shallow over rock. East of the chalk the ground drops into true Blackland Prairie: deep, smectitic vertisols like Houston Black, the official Texas state soil, whose clays swell wet and shrink dry hard enough to crack foundations that ignore them.
| Soil series | USDA classification | Where in the county | Engineering behavior |
|---|---|---|---|
| Houston Black | Fine, smectitic, thermic Udic Haplusterts (Vertisol) | Eastern Plano, Murphy, Wylie, eastern Collin County | High shrink-swell; the classic case for imported select fill under pads |
| Austin | Fine-silty, carbonatic, thermic Udorthentic Haplustolls | The chalk belt through central and west Plano | Silty clay over chalk; moderate shrink-swell, shallow to rippable rock |
| Eddy | Loamy-skeletal, carbonatic, thermic, shallow Typic Ustorthents | Ridges and slopes on the Austin Chalk outcrop | Very shallow, gravelly loam over chalk; little usable fill on site |
| Heiden | Fine, smectitic, thermic Udic Haplusterts (Vertisol) | Blackland slopes across eastern and northern Collin County | High shrink-swell; weathered calcareous mudstone |
What that means for your pad
A single Collin County project can cross both worlds: chalk shallow enough to blunt an excavator on the west end of the tract and PI-40 clay on the east. Either way the native ground rarely passes a structural spec, so the select fill under the slab is imported, and the clay that comes out has to be exported. The 2021 IBC flags soils with a plasticity index of 15 or higher for expansive-soil design, and most of the Blackland runs far past that line. That import-export loop, spec fill in and surplus clay out, is the everyday physics of building here, and it is exactly the loop our dispatch is built around.
Specs We Deliver Against
Collin County geotechs and municipalities write to the same Texas standards we source against every day:
TxDOT Item 132 - Embankment
The select-fill benchmark: Type A caps Liquid Limit at 45 and Plasticity Index at 15, with density verified against PI. TxDOT 2024
TxDOT Item 247 - Flexible Base
The base spec for drives and laydown: Grades 1-2 cap PI at 10 and LL at 40, placed at 100% of max dry density. TxDOT 2024
Compaction & Atterberg testing
Proctor density (ASTM D698 / D1557) and Atterberg limits (D4318) are how your lab proves the material we delivered is the material the spec ordered.
2021 IBC expansive soils
Section 1803.5.3 is why high-PI native clay gets exported instead of reused: soils at PI 15+ trigger expansive-soil design. 2021 IBC Ch. 18

Plano Soil Conditions and What They Mean for Fill
Plano sits on the geologic seam that defines Collin County earthwork. The western side of the city rides the Austin Chalk, a belt of soft Upper Cretaceous limestone carrying thin calcareous soils like the Austin and Eddy series, shallow over rock. East of the chalk the ground drops into true Blackland Prairie: deep smectitic vertisols like Houston Black, the official Texas state soil, alongside Heiden on the slopes, whose clays swell wet and shrink dry.
That seam is why a single Collin County tract can behave two ways at once. The west end can hit rippable chalk shallow enough to slow an excavator while the east end is high plasticity clay. Either way the native ground rarely passes a structural spec: the 2021 IBC flags soils at a plasticity index of 15 or higher for expansive soil design, and most of the Blackland runs well past that line, which is why geotechnical reports here call for imported select fill under the pad and leave the native clay to general grade raise.
The practical result is an import and export loop running at the same time on the same job: spec select fill coming in for the pad, surplus clay going out to a site that wants it for grade raise. That loop is the everyday physics of building in Plano, Frisco, McKinney and the corridor north, and it is what our dispatch is organised around.
Fill Dirt & Select Fill for Sale in Plano
A Plano pad job almost never reuses the dirt it digs. Blackland clay east of the chalk runs far past the PI 15 line a structural spec allows, and the thin soils over Austin Chalk on the west side do not give you usable fill either, so the select fill under the slab is imported both ways. We sell and deliver TxDOT Item 132 grade select fill, plus bulk fill dirt and common fill for grade raises, by the truckload across Plano and Collin County, quoted same-day from the type, yards and site address.
Fill dirt in Plano, select fill, and common fill, all delivered by the truckload.
Fill Dirt Delivery Near Me in Plano
Searching for fill dirt near you in Plano? We do not sell from a yard you have to drive to. We deliver to the job site, so the material comes to your address anywhere across Plano, Frisco, McKinney, Allen, Prosper, Celina and the Collin County corridor, and the load is routed from whichever source sits nearest your site that week.
That also means the closest supplier on a map is not automatically the cheapest delivered price, because haul distance is only one input and material grade is the other. Send the address with the type and yards and we quote the real delivered number for your location the same day.
Dirt Hauling & Haul-Off in Plano
Plano work splits into two kinds and both generate hauling. Redevelopment inside the city means tearing out and re-grading older commercial ground around live utilities and tight staging, while the corridor north through Frisco, McKinney and Celina is cutting new ground outright. We dispatch dump trucks for both, and on a cut-and-fill job we deliver the spec fill and haul the surplus clay off in the same dispatch so the trucks are not running empty one way.

Dirt Export in Plano
The clay that fails a Plano pad spec is still wanted material. Grade-raise work across the Collin County corridor takes high plasticity clay steadily, so exporting from your site is usually a matter of matching it to an active import job rather than paying a landfill. We manage the trucks, the schedule and the destination, and quote the export same-day from the yards, the material and the address.
Moving dirt out is half of what we do. See dirt export and haul-off for how the match works.
Dirt Dumpsite in Plano: Where to Dump Dirt & Clean Fill Wanted
Looking for somewhere to dump dirt in Plano usually means looking at disposal fees. Because the corridor from Plano up through Frisco, McKinney, Celina and Anna is raising grade on new ground continuously, clean fill finds a home here fast. We place your clean material with an import site that wants it and coordinate the dump trucks, which regularly turns a disposal line item into a low-cost or no-cost haul-off.
Bulk Topsoil, Sand & Flex Base Delivery in Plano
Under Plano drives, laydown yards and construction entrances the base call is usually TxDOT Item 247 flex base, delivered by the truckload alongside recycled crushed concrete, cushion and concrete sand for utility bedding through the US-75 and SH-121 corridors, and screened topsoil to finish over the clay. See flex base and road base, sand and aggregate base, and bulk topsoil.
What Fill Dirt & Dirt Hauling Cost in Plano
We price material by the cubic yard and by the truckload, and haul-off per load. In Collin County the swing factors are haul distance up the corridor and which side of the chalk seam your site sits on, since that decides whether you are importing fill, exporting clay, or doing both at once. A redevelopment tear-out inside Plano and a greenfield pad in Celina price differently for the same yards, so the honest answer is a specific quote rather than a rate card. Send the type, yards and address and we turn it around the same day.
